Undergraduate Research

Up to 20 undergraduate students receive research training in the EPL each semester. Typically, these students will go out to postgraduate study in medicine, physical and occupational therapy, and exercise and health psychology. Students can receive up to 18 hours of academic credit to satisfy any of the following:

Overview

Undergraduate research assistants (URAs) in the EPL engage in activities such as:

    • Administration of Graded Exercise Tests
    • Administration of Functional Fitness Tests
    • Data Processing
    • Electrocardiogram Preparation
    • Literature Reviews
    • Screening and Scheduling

There are also opportunities to gain experience as exercise leaders in some of our interventions. Additionally, URAs from the EPL present some of the lab's research findings at the annual departmental awards ceremony, and some URAs, who have played a significant role in some studies, have also been involved in presentations at national meetings and been co-authors on publications in scientific journals. We especially encourage undergraduates with an interest in Exercise and Health Psychology to pursue research experience in the EPL.
