The SAY Exercise study is examining the effects of an 8-week yoga program on cognitive and physical health in older adults. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a yoga exercise group or a stretching and core group. Both groups will be supervised by trained staff and instructors. The program has been designed to examine the variety of physical, mental and social benefits of yoga as well as stretching and core exercises.

To qualify, you must be:

  1. Aged 55-80 yrs
  2. English speaking
  3. Comfortable getting up and down from the floor
  4. Able to attend classes at the UIUC campus
  5. No regular exercisers or Yoga practitioners
  6. Not involved in another physical activity/exercise study
  7. Not involved in another cognitive study
  8. Independent living in the community
  9. Have good vision
  10. In town for 8 weeks of class and able to complete all testing

Stretching and Yoga Exercise Study

  • Program Dates: January 7, 2013 - March 1, 2013

  • Class Schedule:Monday - Wednesday - Friday

  • Class Times: Evenings (5:15 p.m. - 6:15 p.m.)

  • Testing: Now through Thanksgiving Break (pre-program) & March 1 through Spring Break (post-program).
