Fit and Active Seniors Trial (FAST): Influence of Fitness on Brain and Cognition II

Funding Source:

National Institute on Aging: NIH #2R37 AG025667

The FAST Trial examines the effects of a number of physical activity programs on psychological and physical function in adults aged 60-79 years. One program is a social dance condition which focuses on improving balance, endurance, and coordination. The second condition has been systematically developed in the Exercise Psychology Laboratory over the past decade and incorporates flexibility, toning, and balance exercises. The final condition is a progressive walking condition in which half of the participants receive a nutritional supplement designed specifically for this study. All programs have been carefully designed to be optimally challenging and easily modifiable to meet individual needs, and, above all, enjoyable.
